Man City
Imagine a club being penalized for injecting too much money into their club? It’s not really the problem any more: winning at all costs.
Finance types are extorting the fans at other clubs by loan and debt mechanisms, of all sorts.
They’ve noticed that football fans are the dumbest consumers ever and represent guaranteed profit – the yield on unholy debt.
All it tells me is that the city owners have got it 100% wrong. If they just played by the rules but didn’t let the club incur any debt, they would have still been way ahead of the rest of the clubs.
The Premier League needs to worry more about the fans getting screwed over by the likes of the Glasners and the Lewis’s, rather than being the beneficiaries of stupid largesse from the UAE.
An obvious fix would be to calculate transfer fees and player salaries from results after the fact, not guesstimated from prior performance and hope. Then you’d be able to pay them out of the winnings only, not debt or equity or indirect club revenue.
