Dream
I had an odd dream last night.
Me and the elf were in some Asian country with the car.
I tried to rent an empty shop for somewhere to live.
The elf thought I was an idiot and backed up the car to load all my shit so we could drive home.
Then two coppers came along, one male and one female.
They fined the elf for how she parked. Mind you, this is Lombok or near equivalent where there isn’t even a local verb for ‘parking’.
She did that thing where she starts letting them know how she feels about it all.
The male copper responded by adding fines to the list. 17 demerit points in all and $5k.
I told her to shut up and then started trying to be the voice of reason with the coppers.
They respond by asking Beanie if she has her license. (Yes)
So they fine me 3 times over and 12 points.
So we’d both lost our licenses.
Beanie had to drive us all home.
The thing was a parable about privilege. Privilege is about being the beneficiary of leniency due to economic, cultural or racial membership, even if you don’t accept that membership.
When the privilege is taken away under certain circumstances, the sense of outrage is intense. Especially when it’s unfair, unreasonable and without opportunity for recourse.
