Insults revisited

There are three kinds of insults: unintended, intended and imagined.

Unintended insults should be forgiven, intended insults should be denied their effect and imagined insults should be prevented by assuming benign intent when the evidence is ambiguous.

The underlying principle is simple: do not give other people, or your own unsupported interpretation of their motives, unnecessary control over your emotional state.

There’s a problem with a good life philosophy.

Writing down the rule is considerably easier than remembering to apply it at the precise moment your brain has already decided someone is being a cunt.
