Human slop
I was sent an article by WordPress in which the author proposes a school subject called “Life Under Pressure”
The proposed course combines practical finance, emotional intelligence and faith or purpose, with the aim of teaching students not just competence but character and the ability to function when life does not provide clear answers.
Grammatically competent, emotionally earnest, structurally polished and almost entirely devoid of new information. It uses personal biography, familiar contrasts and motivational language to inflate a commonplace point into an article.
The author’s biggest crime? Not addressing the obvious questions like:
Schools are trapped into teaching tonnes of off-piste shit already. Do they really need more?
The course outcomes are defined but not the actual course work that would magically create those outcomes. Education isn’t that easy mate.
Does everyone share the assumed value system? I don’t, for one.
Is it a worthwhile life goal just to consume more than your fellow humans?
Would it work? Probably not. You probably can’t teach character.
Is it ok to use AI to turn your mundane thoughts into motivational posters accompanied by elevator musak?
And people use the term AI Slop to denigrate the output of the machines! I’m of the opinion that the output of AI is always higher quality slop than the average human stuff because it corrects for certain defects, by policy.
Maybe not that much higher, but at least a little bit.
