From 1 July 2026, Queensland’s new e-mobility rules include parent liability where a child under 16 rides illegally, including on an illegal device, while underage or while unlicensed. The Queensland Government’s StreetSmarts page states: “Parents can be fined for children under 16 years riding illegally” and gives the penalty as $518.
If that was my kid, I would have to bring a civil case against them for damages.
As to the govt, are they mad? You can only lose votes with dumb ideas like this. You can’t win any.
We all know you can’t tell modern kids anything.
