The other day someone asked me my opinion on something. Because the other person was genuinely interested, I shared. 

He suggested ‘you should write that up.’ I replied ‘I don’t think there’s much point.’

Upon reflection, this is because of my previously stated view that we have, in this century, moved into the post-enlightenment era where rational thinking and ‘truth’ have little value.

This is most notable in politics where we are now represented by self-serving types that only bother to give the mildest of nods to rational arguments for their positions.

And the US is slightly ahead of us, where Trump has quite successfully abandoned all pretences of having ‘policies’ that withstand any scrutiny.

Noting that politicians tend to reflect the populations that they serve, I can only conclude that logic is a rapidly depleting resource.

Indeed, the application of, and the requirement for anything deductive or inductive seems to put one at a competitive disadvantage.

I can only (and ironically) conclude that this is because resources are now so guaranteed that an unfair access to these is best achieved through a self-catalysing form of unwitting deceit.

In essence we have become ‘victims’ of all the technology developed since the enlightenment and also of the nanny state that has evolved as a result of all that ready access to resources.

There’s simply no penalty for jettisoning logic, and by doing so one’s avarice is less constrained.

It won’t always be so. When the shit starts hitting the fan, when resources are seriously depleted, my bet is on a logical Renaissance. 

I hope I live long enough to see it.
